1 Timothy 6:11-12
The Good Fight of Faith
“11 But as for you, man of God, shun all this; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life, to which you were called and for which you made?? the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”
As a twenty-five year veteran pastor, every year I look forward to our regional meeting during which we celebrate with those new pastors who are just beginning in full-time ministry. They are asked the questions our denomination has asked each and every pastor since our beginning over 200 years ago. At the ordination worship service they hear the words every pastor has heard since our beginning over 200 years ago. Each and every year it is for me a renewal of my commitment to serve God where I am sent. Last July we began in ministry here in Beaumont and with that came the opportunity to train and become a volunteer chaplain. As we celebrated our graduation last November I was reminded of my ordination service and renewed my commitment to serve. At the end of January, the Beaumont Police Department welcomed 7 new officers who took the oath of office. It is also an opportunity for every veteran officer to remember why you do what you do standing in harm’s way to protect our city. The Apostle Paul wrote to the young pastor Timothy “Fight the good fight of faith!” to encourage him when ministry was difficult. As one of our volunteer chaplains I will say we all want to encourage you when your work gets difficult. We pray that you will stay the course and keep the faith! We commit to serving along-side you every way that we are able so that you may fight the good fight of faith!
